David Sohn served in the 401st Fighter Squadron, 370th Fighter Group during WWII. His MOS were Ordinance Specialist and Airplane Armorer. S SGT Sohn took part in the following battles and offensives: Air Offensive Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Air Combat EAME Theater. He was issued a Good Conduct Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, The American Theater Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal w/ 6 Bronze Stars. In addition to Ordinance School, Dave also attended Shoulder Weapons School.

David was born, raised, lived and died in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After returning home from the war, he used the G.I. Bill to go to school to become a Civil Engineer. Upon retirement from his business career, he devoted himself to service at the Church of the Holy Spirit in inner city Akron, Ohio, a place that helps those most in need. He and his wife Jeanne Sohn raised three daughters and hosted countless family reunions at their various homes in Cuyahoga Falls with his wife, daughters, grandkids and great grandchildren.

David Sohn’s 3rd Great Grandfather Simeon Prior was an American Revolution veteran, who was one of the first white settlers in the Cuyahoga Falls area. Dave’s 2nd Great Grandfather served in the War of 1812 – Dave made sure that his descendants were aware of this family history of service to the United States, but he spoke very little about his own service during WWII.

We honor you, David Sohn.
