Sergeant Cameron was the right waist gunner aboard a B-17F Flying Fortress heavy bomber, as part of 548th Bomb Squadron, 385th Bombardment Group, that was attacked by enemy aircraft and crash landed in the Atlantic Ocean about 40 miles off Padstow, Cornwall, England.  Most of the crew survived the crash but were subjected to the severe cold of the water. Before he could be rescued, Sergeant Cameron went missing and was never recovered. Sergeant Cameron’s name is inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Cambridge American Cemetery in Cambridge, United Kingdom. This narrative was based on Missing Air Crew Report No. 961, dated 3 September 1943, and American Battle Monuments Commission information.

We honor you, Archie Cameron.
