SPC Daniel J. Freeman, in the wake of September 11th, enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program a year before he graduated from high school. I met him just long enough to pin his jump wings when he graduated Airborne School. He joined the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Italy and deployed with them to Afghanistan. A year and a half after his Silver Wings, he died at the age of 20. Ghazni, Afghanistan, 6 April 2005. May his memory forever be a blessing.
