Private Edward Carabis served under General Patton during the Normandy invasion of World War Two. On June 10, 1944, his regiment (357) landed at Utah Beach. He fought his way across France, going through Ste. Marie-Eglise, St. Sauveur to Portbail, helping to cut the arm of France from the Germans. His Company L marched back through Hautteville, down to Periers, south through St. Lo. On July 6, 1944, his unit was marching south as part of preparations for battle, when airplanes fired overhead and he was wounded at Beaucoudray, France. He woke up in the hospital in London.
