Leilani J Miller joined the U.S. Army April 10, 1970. She graduated Woman’s Army Corps basic training at Ft McClellan, Alabama. General Elizabeth P. Hoisington was the keynote speaker. At Ft. Sam Houston, Texas graduated from 91A School, the keynote speaker was General May Hayes. Graduated from 91C Clinical Specialist course in 1971 and was assigned to Walter Reed Army Hospital, working a busy 32 bed women’s ward. While there treated General Westmoreland’s wife Katherine. I met Mamie Eisenhower, was invited up to see her in the Presidential Suite. On December 31, 1972 she arrived at Basset Army Hospital Ft. Wainwright Alaska, it was 60 below zero when she landed. 

She worked new born and delivery, later she was put on detached duty to Ft. Greely Alaska for 5 months where she was put in charge of clinics on the post, while there she flew many Medivac flights between Ft. Greely and Ft. Wainwright a hundred miles to the north on Hueys. She returned to Basset Army Hospital and became the night charge nurse of the ER. She was honorably discharged from the Army July 15, 1976.
