Joy Stearns is a full-time Captain with West Jordan Fire Department and has over 17 years of experience. She has a Masters in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Utah and specifically studied building resilience in the fire service. She is also the Mental Health Coordinator with the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy and teaches resilience courses all across the state.

We bring up post-traumatic stress and how it is a normal reaction to events encountered in the field of emergency services.
