A study on black WACs published in 1963 lists Stewart as the only black female warrant officer on active duty at that time. Stewart would go on to serve in Vietnam as a cryptographic technician with the 1st Signal Brigade from 1971-1972. She retired in the late 70s as a CW4.

She was cited for meritorious service as cryptographic custodian and cryptographic security officer of the US Army Strategic Communications Command Signal Group in Hawaii during the period March 1966 to March 1968. She is daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Frederick Weldon, Birmingham, and lives at Hanover Manor Apartments in Carlisle.”
