The Richmond Hill community woke up to the tragic news this morning [December 8, 2019] that one of our own – Airman Apprentice Cameron Scott Walters – has made the ultimate sacrifice. As a student at the Naval Aviation Schools (NAS) in Pensacola, Cameron was 21 years old when he was killed during a classroom shooting.

While the details of the attack are not completely known at this time, Capt. Tim Kinsella, commanding officer, NAS Pensacola stated: “The Sailors that lost their lives in the line of duty showed exceptional heroism and bravery in the face of evil. When confronted, they didn’t run from danger; they ran towards it and saved lives. If not for their actions, and the actions of the Naval Security Force that were the first responders on the scene, this incident could have been far worse.”

The City of Richmond Hill feels the loss profoundly of these three sailors and grieves with the family and friends of the deceased. We ask our community to come together for Cameron’s family, to mourn and remember him, and to pay tribute to his sacrifice. We will forever be grateful for his courage and heroism.

We honor you, Cameron Walters.
